How To Train Your Dragon Directors in HP Ad

posted by Aaron

As was predicted last week, DreamWorks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon didn’t light the box office on fire. While it took the weekend with $43 million, that is many bags of gold short of the $59 million Monsters vs. Aliens transported back to headquarters last year. I suspect the film will have sustaining power though, as it’s scored so well with critics. Did you see the films’ director/writers, Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois, in this HP ad? The funny-man opposite them is Rhys Darby.

Will DreamWorks’ Dragon Have Box Office Bite?

posted by Aaron

An industry insider I trust told me that he thinks How to Train Your Dragon is DreamWorks Animation’s best feature yet, and that the use of 3D is also top notch. The critics apparently agree, having boosted the film to a 94% on RottenTomatoes.com. However, I’ve read some fairly low box office predictions for the action/comedy, which opens today. Here’s the IMAX trailer:

Critics Fired Up For DreamWorks’ Dragons

posted by Aaron

The early reviews for DreamWorks Animation’s upcoming CG feature How to Train Your Dragon are on fire. The PG film currently holds a 100% rating at RottenTomatoes.com, with Variety calling it “a thrilling drama interspersed with amusing comedic elements,” while the Hollywood Reporter says it’s “a lively though disjointed 3D cartoon.” You’ll be able to see for yourself this Friday, when the film hits theaters. Below is a featurette, and around the :45 second mark, Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois, the directors and writers of the film, introduce us to the most prominent dragons we’ll meet in the film.

Nadder, Zippleback and Gronckle Lessons From How to Train Your Dragon

posted by Aaron

A new video for DreamWorks Animation’s upcoming CG feature How to Train Your Dragon has arrived. In the 4th lesson, you can hear the vocal styling of Kristen Wiig (SNL) and T.J. Miller as Ruffnut and Tuffnut Thorston, the blonde brother/sister duo who appear to be pretty competitive with eachother. We actually saw a hint of this at the October Intel Developer Forum. It’s a six-part instructional featurette on the topic of Dragon Training:

Lesson 1: Deadly Nadder
Lesson 2: Gronckle
Lesson 3: Monstrous Nightmare
Lesson 4: Hideous Zippleback
Lesson 5: Night Fury
Lesson 6: Terrible Terror
