Malcolm Sutherland’s new animated film centers around a fight. Bout is familiar yet completely foreign, with luchador-style wrestling moves, but fought between a mystical duo – a bear and a snake. Using a format that could be described as “chalkboard style,” Sutherland utilizes color sparingly, saving it for the bloody finale. The film is wide open for interpretation, and along the way you’ll be quite mesmerized by the smooth animation and eerie soundtrack.
Spy a look at what Malcolm Sutherland is cooking up. It’s test footage of a an AT-AT walker, Sutherland-style. I suppose we’ll just have to wait and see where this all going, but it sure looks interesting….
The latest short from Canada’s Malcolm Sutherland (Astronmer’s Dream) feels like an existential meditation on life as we know it. Umbra a cyclical film that views a new world through the eyes of an explorer who soon realizes that this world isn’t so new anymore. I’m curious about the production method – it feels very organic, as if it was painted on a single slab, with each frame painting over the last.
Malcolm Sutherland’s (The Astronomer’s Dream) latest animated short is like a slice of life. He interprets the crowd that formed for the yearly celebration of La Fête nationale du Québec (The National Holiday of Quebec). La Fete was produced with financial assistance from The Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec.
Did you spot Mike Geiger’s take on a scene from Star Wars over at ColdHardFlash earlier this month? It was for Star Wars Uncut, Casey Pugh’s crowdsourcing project, and I just spotted a few clips submitted by Malcolm Sutherland. Here’s scenes 113 and 246, complete with newly recorded audio.
