Vicenta is a beautifully animated and designed stop-motion film about a women in search for her late husband’s lottery winnings. It’s actually a bit of a horror-film, and I won’t say any more lest I spoil the fun. The 22-minute film was produced over a 2-year period at the Spanish studio Conflictivos Productions. It was directed by Sam Orti, who received a visit at one point by the mighty Peter Lord of Aardman studios.
Two Spanish studios, Headless and SixBirds, are developing a CG feature. No Pets Allowed tells the story of a family who endure “the unexpected invasion of their home by strange and fun alien monsters.” The teaser below was directed by Adrián García, Victor Maldonado and Alfredo Torres.
The Goya Awards are like the Oscars of Spain, and they’ve recently announced the nominees for the 2010 event. Margarita, which was directed by Alex Cervantes, was nominated in the Best Animated Short Film category. The 2D film is based on a poem by Ruben Dario, and it was produced by Hampa Animation Studio, which is located in Valencia, Spain. Here’s the film in its entirety.
Also nominated were La Dama y La Muerte (Lady and the Reaper), which was directed by Javier Recio Garcia, Alma (Soul) by Rodrigo Blaas and Tachaaan! by Carlos del Olmo, Miguel Ángel Bellot and Rafael Cano. Here’s a clip from Tachaaan!

Not sure what this was created for, but I like it. The Frank Barton Company is headquarted in Madrid, and perhaps some day we’ll know why they produced this great looking CG piece featuring animated vinyl toys.
