David de Rooij and Jelle Brunt’s traditionally-animated Slim Pickings Fat Chances is currently on the festival circuit, bringing the ol’ Looney Tunes flavor back. It’s the story of two saloons in a small town squaring off for customers. Take ya back to the gold old days, doesn’t it? Brunt and de Rooij are students at the Willem de Kooning Adacemy in Rotterdam.
Pecker is an upcoming stop-motion short set to releaes in 70 Dutch theaters in July of this year. The trailer below gives you just a momentary glance at the production, which looks like a helluva lotta fun. It was animated by Patrick Raats and Erik van Schaaik, who was also the writer and director.
The Dutch seaside city of Scheveningen recently renovated their coastal infrastructure and to spruce up the area they installed a number of whimsical sculptures crafted by New Yorker Tom Otterness. To promote the newly unveiled additions, the city also called upon Dutch studio DPI Animation House to bring it all to life.
100% Halal director Rogier van der Zwaag moonlights as a DJ for the group Nobody Beats The Drum (along with Jori Collignon and Sjam Sjamsoedin). So it should be no surprise that he makes his own music videos, like this one below, titled Grindin’. And below that, check out the making of segment, which they shot at their studio in Amsterdam.

Pivot is a high-octane, CG film that emerged in 2009 from the Netherlands. The cubist, angular production design mixed with excellent character animation make for a truly engaging film that delivers a very satisfying ending. It’s the creation of Kevin Megens, Floris Vos, Arno de GrijsArno de Grijs and André Bergs, and it produced by il Luster Productions. Here’s the film in it’s entirety.
Michael Reissinger recently directed a series of spots for Zilveren Kruis, the Netherlands-based health insurance provider. This one below, titled Collaboration, was produced at Rokkit in London, and the animation was handled by Peppermelon.
