Just in time for Halloween, okay it’s actually quite early for that, Monsters vs. Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins from Outer Space is out on DVD. The story revolves around innocent jack-o-lanterns are actually nefarious aliens. Eee gads! Here’s the trailer:
The Monsters vs. Aliens NBC Halloween TV special apparently did well in the ratings, the DVD is selling well, but for some reason there’s no sequel. Odd. So onto the next TV special from a feature franchise – Merry Madagascar, which is based on the successful DreamWorks Madagascar film franchise. This half-hour special airs on November 17th at 8pm ET and again on November 28th at 8pm ET. The day after the original airing the film will be available on DVD exclusively at Walmart for $5. It was written by David Soren, Eric Darnell and Tom McGrath, and directed by first-timer David Soren. Here’s a clip:
NBC is getting set to air a half-hour, Halloween-themed TV special based on the DreamWorks Animation feature Monsters vs. Aliens. The CG special, titled Monsters vs. Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins from Outer Space, was directed by Peter Ramsey who I believe is a first timer in this role. Here’s an assembly of clips from the project, which airs on October 28th at 8-8:30 p.m. ET, repeating from 8:30-9 p.m. ET.
DreamWorks Animation’s CG feature Monsters vs. Aliens attacks the DVD shelves next Tuesday, and we’ve captured a behind the scenes clip to keep you entertained in the meantime. Believe it or not, the monster-sized $379 million worldwide gross was considered an underperformance, putting the sequel feature in jeopardy. However, next month, NBC will scare up a made-for-TV, Halloween-themed episode titled Monsters vs. Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins from Outer Space. We’ll keep you updated on the airdate as it is revealed.
DreamWorks Animation’s upcoming film Monsters vs. Aliens is impressing critics, and holding steady around 80% on RottenTomatoes.com. It falls short of the critical-darling that was Kung Fu Panda (89%), but far ahead of the relatively underperformering Bee Movie (53%). Here’s a few more clips from the film, which was directed by Conrad Vernon and Rob Letterman. Monsters vs. Aliens premieres this Friday, March 27th, and in many other countries the following week.
Monsters vs. Aliens is being released by Paramount Pictures.
Monsters vs. Aliens is one week away! While we count the minutes, enjoy a few clips from the film, which is directed by Conrad Vernon and Rob Letterman, produced by DreamWorks Animation and released by Paramount Pictures.
After talking to some friends privy to early screenings, I can safely say the buzz on Monsters vs. Aliens is very strong, but we’ll give the full scoop after our preview screening in a week. Both co-director Conrad Vernon (Shrek) and DreamWorks Animation boss Jeffrey Katzenberg are quizzed in this interview for the Sydney-based Cumberland and Courier Newspapers – mixed in with some EPK footage. Vernon answers the eternal question – why does animation take so long (answer: it’s the story, stupid)? Around the 4:00 mark, there’s an airport sequence that I hadn’t yet seen. Monsters vs. Aliens opens in the US on March 27th, and in dozens of other countries on April 2nd.
