ParaNorman has risen from beneath the soil to haunty your Monday grind. Here’s the first full trailer for the upcoming Laika feature that hits theaters in August 2012.
Laika’s follow-up to Coraline is a stop-motion comedy/thriller titled ParaNorman, due out in August of 2012. Here’s the first trailer, in which we meet Norman, the only kid in town who can communicate with the zombies overrunning the city.
The upcoming live-action feature A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas includes some slick-looking stop-motion animation, which was produced by Laika. My guess is that Bent Image Lab handled this, and I’ll confirm as we get closer. In the clip below, they call themselves “claymated,” while I’m guessing no clay was used, but I could be wrong. It’s supposed to look like Rankin/Bass style animation. [spoiler alert] I read that in the full film we see “Harold and Kumar tripping off of psychotropic eggnog, being chased by an evil snowman down the streets of Manhattan.” The film is due in theaters on November 4th of this year.
The animated segment starts 1:15 into the trailer, and I’ve taken the liberty of jumping forward to that point. To see the full trailer, click here:
Smuggler director Filip Engstrom recently helmed a new spot for M&M’s. Laika’s Kirk Kelley handled the animation direction. The ad is titled Hungry Eyes, and following the :30 second spot you’ll see some bloopers.
LAIKA/house director Mark Gustafson led the animation charge on this new Planters Peanuts spot, titled Peanut Butter Doug. We are introduced to the stunt double who risks his shell in each stop-motion spot.
Remember Alejandro, the Planters Almonds Super Bowl spot? It was the stop-motion ad directed by Ringan Ledwidge, who we meet in this behind-the-scenes piece that was just released. We also are introduced to the supervising animation director from LAIKA/house, Mark Gustafson.
Here’s the stop-motion Super Bowl spot from Planters Almonds, presumably directed by Ringan Ledwidge at Smuggler along with supervising animation director Mark Gustafson from LAIKA/house. The ad, featuring the iconic Mr. Peanut, is titled Planters 2011 Big Game Commercial: Alejandro.
