Well, the comeback we imagined for The Goode Family will never get a chance to materialize. This ABC series was officially cancelled, according to futoncritic.com. It’s been an altogether rough summer for adult-oriented animated TV. Sit Down, Shut Up endured a difficult birth, and death wasn’t much kinder. Mike Judge hasn’t had a great 2009 either. King of the Hill isn’t getting picked up by FOX, and his latest show has been scraped and sent to the recycling center. Lets hope his next feature, Extract, fares better when it opens next month. Here’s one last look at The Goode Family – a clip from last week’s episode:
Last Friday’s episode of ABC’s The Goode Family saw a fairly sizable increase in viewership. The show, which airs at 8:30PM Eastern/7:30PM Central, has been watched by around 1.5 million viewers for the past month, but last week nearly 1.8 million tuned in. That said, under 2 million viwers on a primetime weekday is pretty low. Here’s a clip from last week’s Trouble in Store episode. Can the show mount a comeback?
ABC’s new animated-series The Goode Family is tanking. Acoording to Wikipedia, the show, which has moved from Wednesdays to Fridays 8:30/7:30c, is posting below a 1 rating (it’s actually putting up a 0.5 rating). I find the show somewhat amusing, if a bit gimmicky. I think it’s far better than sitcoms like Two and Half Men, but apparently the audience doesn’t. What’s your take?
Here’s a clip from last Friday’s episode, Freeganomics.
Ratings for The Goode Family premiere apparently underwhelmed, and we’ll see what transpired last night. Doubling down, ABC aired two new episodes, Pleatherheads and Goodes Gone Wild, a segment of which you can see below.
Miss the premiere of The Goode Family last night? Never fear – it’s already available at ABC.com (only for those in the USA – or try Hotspot Shield). There’s a good discussion going on over at CartoonBrew.com about this first episode. What did you think? Does it fill that empty hole in your heart left by KOTH?
Also, here’s a 2-minute clip:
In his Lineboil.com review, Keith Staskiewicz hinted that ABC’s new animated series The Goode Family may evolve into something special. Well, you can decide for yourself tonight, when the series premieres at 8/9c. Here’s a 1-minute clip to whet your appetite.
And here’s episode 2 of Cartoon Cannon – The Goode, the Bad and the Family in which our gang blatantly recycles a number of jokes about being green in this modern world.

The Goodes are the blue-state analogues of the Hills, Mike Judge’s venerable
Texas-twangers who will soon be packing up the propane after a staggering 13 seasons. A bespectacled father voiced by Judge, an overweight son, a midriff-baring daughter, a cantankerous old coot of a father, and a dog named after a political figure; Judge’s creations for his new series The Goode Family, which premieres Wednesday May 27th (9:00-9:30 p.m., ET) on ABC, are the cultural and political negative images of his previous ones. Rather than chugging beer on the front lawn, the Goodes are more likely to be found swigging soy milk in their solar-powered home and then painstakingly recycling the containers.
Here’s a few clips from the pilot:
The pater familias here is Gerald Goode, a poncho-wearing member of the liberal academe. His wife is a local activist with whom he has two children, one adopted and one biological. The dog is an unwilling vegan and they shower outside in a home-made rainwater catchment system. Read more »
