The Terrible Bandit is Evee Chriszt’s thesis animation from her final year of studies at Sherican College. There’s not much here in the way of story, but her animation and design are superb.
Rainmaker Entertainment’s 5-minute short film Luna has just become available on the web. The CG “film noir” short was inspired by a concept from Rainmaker producer Luke Carroll and directed by Donna Brockopp (The Jungle Book 2 and Peter Pan’s The Return to Never Land). We meet a charming caterpillar who finds himself in a romantic encounter with a flirty female moth. With world-class production values, and a clever twist at the end, I highly recommend a viewing. Now graduated, Maude Breton created this short during her studies at Cégep du Vieux Montréal. It’s a CG piece titled Au sommet du monde, le Roi a Froid (At the Top of the World, the King of Cold).
Second Hand is Isaac King’s latest animated short. He combines stop-motion elements with 2D animation to create something quite unusual. King currently resides in Toronto.
The team at Toronto-based Head Gear Animation recently produced a series of spots for the Toronto Zoo. The stop-motion spots feature the ever-popular penguins. Here’s one titled Pink Eye, a virus that tore through my household just last week.
But where does it go? I wanna know. You will too, as you finish watching The Helmet, the stop-motion, thesis animation from Jen Bamford, a 4th year student at Sheridan College. The film is effective, well-designed and acted, and Bruno Degazio’s score and sound effects really help add to the eerie tone of the film.
