Blue Sky Studios, the team behind the Ice Age Trilogy, is prepping a new CG feature for an April 2011 release. Rio is being directed by Carlos Saldanha (Ice Age: The Meltdown), and the story focuses on “a nerdy macaw who leaves the comforts of his cage in small town Minnesota and heads to Rio de Janeiro. He embarks on the adventure of a lifetime, learning to open himself up to all that life has to offer along the way.” Here’s a sequence from the film:

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs is a worldwide box office phenomenon. By the end of the year, it will likely be the highest-grossing animated film of all time, eclipsing Shrek 2. It’s already the 3rd highest grossing film in the international market, only exceeded by Titanic and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. So it’s safe to assume this 3rd Ice Age film will sell like gangbusters on DVD. It hit the shelves yesterday, and here’s a clip from the animatic:

In this clip below, co-director Chris Saldanha discusses Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, which hits theaters on Wednesday, July 1st. At 55% on RottenTomatoes.com, the film isn’t exactly wowing critics, but I’ll see it just for the Simon Pegg sequences.

This is our first look at Simon Pegg’s character in Blue Sky Studios’ upcoming Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, which is in theaters July 1st. Pegg (Shaun of the Dead, Star Trek) plays a one-eyed weasel named Buck.

We’re less than two weeks away from the release of the other big animated summer film. Up is simply crushing the box office – tracking at Finding Nemo pace.
