Animation Fundraising – A Cautionary Tail

I’ve been following the Kickstarter fundraiser for A Cautionary Tail, a new CG film from Sam Rippingale. He’s pulled together a cast that includes Academy-Award winning actress Cate Blanchett, and as you’ll see in the clip below, they’re using hand-made miniature sets in the production.

Dave Carter and his trusty co-creator Nikos Andronicos have delivered the pilot episode of an all-new, animated series for Mondo Media. Billy and the Bitch is a stop-motion animated series that follows the verbal beatings doled out by a dog upon his weary owner. You may remember Dave’s work on the series Psychotown.

Huang Takes Home Award For A Divorce

Sydney-based animator Beini Huang took home the top prize at the 2011 Toronto Student International Film Festival (TSIFF). The award was for A Divorce, a 4-minute film about a man reflecting on the dissolution of his marriage.

Jurevicius Produces Music Video For The Audreys

Luke Jurevicius (whose brother is Nathan, the artist behind Scary Girl) recently produced and co-wrote this new animated music video for the band The Audreys. The traditionally-animated video tells the story of a lost girl making her way through a surreal landscape. The 4-minute piece, titled Sometimes the Stars, was recently accepted into the 2011 Annecy festival in the Music Video category. Full credits below.

Watch the Oscar Nominated Short – The Lost Thing

The Lost Thing, which is up for Best Animated Short at this month’s 83rd Annual Academy Awards, is now online. The 15-minute short was directed by Andrew Ruhemann and Shaun Tan and it focuses on “a boy discovers a bizarre looking creature while out collecting bottle tops at the beach.” It was produced by Passion Pictures Australia and Screen Australia.

Plaza Films Sheds Light on SBS Spot

The team at Plaza Films produced the animation for this theatrical/TV spot for SBS, the Australian broadcasting network. The ad agency US Sydney developed a dark world that knew no magic or beauty, until one soul brings back the light. The 1-minute ad was directed by Helen Clemens.
