Remember Alejandro, the Planters Almonds Super Bowl spot? It was the stop-motion ad directed by Ringan Ledwidge, who we meet in this behind-the-scenes piece that was just released. We also are introduced to the supervising animation director from LAIKA/house, Mark Gustafson.
Last week’s VW spots arguably ruled the Super Bowl, with the Darth Vader spot making a massive impact (25 million views in a week?). We featured the excellent Black Beetle spot, which was animated at The Mill in London. Deutsch LA released a behind-the-scenes piece yesterday that illustrates the painstaking effort that went into the ad.
Nexus and Framestore London were the muscle being Coca-Cola’s Super Bowl Siege. This new epic spot was directed by Fx & Mat, while Mike Mellor at Framestore lead the animation charge.
Will.i.am’s half-time show with the Black Eyed Peas may have been a debacle, but he managed to get a second shot at making the grade. His digital agency Dipdive was behind the CG spot for salesforce’s chatter.com spot. It featured the Baby Peas, who were passed the torch by the Muppet Babies. The animation team was lead by Executive Producer Julia Pistor and Reel FX’s Dale Carman.
Following in the footsteps of Chuck Liddell, Ozzy, Danny Trejo, Bruce Lee, Frank Sinatra and Sylvester Stallone, Eminem stars in the latest Lipton Brisk spot. Premiering during yesterday’s Super Bowl broadcast, this new stop-motion “anti-spot” was produced by Mekanism. I think it’s only somewhat effective. But it certainly moves too fast. The shampoo sequence that turns his hair curly is hard to understand the first time through, and I just don’t get why he wants to change his name at the end. Maybe I’m the idiot here, but I just don’t get it. Eminem got it, in the form of $1 million dollar check.
Here’s the stop-motion Super Bowl spot from Planters Almonds, presumably directed by Ringan Ledwidge at Smuggler along with supervising animation director Mark Gustafson from LAIKA/house. The ad, featuring the iconic Mr. Peanut, is titled Planters 2011 Big Game Commercial: Alejandro.
