Back in March we featured some work that emerged from the 24 Hour Toons project, which is the brainchild of Joe Pitt and Alex Hirsch. It works like this – the website announces a theme, and then the clock starts ticking. Artists have 24 hours to submit a film to the project’s open YouTube site and the top 8 submissions will be posted on the homepage. The next event begins tomorrow at midnight, so go get on the mailing list and order some new keyframes from the animation store. In the meantime, here’s a submission from Joe Pitt, titled Nick Loves Beef:
Can’t believe I hadn’t seen the 24 Hour Toons website before. Many universities organize this type of event – a lock-in or a 24 or 48 hour film competition. I love this type of stuff, where an artist is somehow constrained – either by time or topic, or both. And that’s exactly what Joe Pitt and Alex Hirsch have done with their bi-weekly competition – they propose the theme (currently it’s “puppy”), artists are notified (you need to get on the mailing list) and the clock starts ticking. They’ve also set up a YouTube channel and handed out the log-in info so artists can simply upload their work when they finish. Here’s a recent submission by Edward Juan.
