China, Illinois Now On The Adult Swim Map

posted by Aaron

The brilliant Brad Neely has officially been granted an Adult Swim series. He’s worked with Adult Swim in the past, after his 4-part miniseries China, Illinois aired on the network back in 2008, but now he’s got the greenlight for a full series which is being animated at Titmouse. Now titled China, Il, the show centers on Frank and Steve Smith who are “brothers who teach in the history department of a state university in China, Illinois. They also happen to be legends in their own minds who will often sacrifice facts, lessons and syllabi for the sake of being awesome.” The madness we are about to witness can be previewed in the original 4-part miniseries below:

Tonight’s South Park Offers TMI

posted by Aaron

Anger is Cartman’s signature go-to move, and he’s going to get some help managing that skill in tonight’s all-new episode of South Park. That’s what Anger Management classes are about, right? Like when you get a drug test at work, they offer up the stinkiest weed and smoothest acid for your tripping pleasure. Or am I missing something here? T.M.I. premieres at 10pm on Comedy Central, and there’s stuff about measuring boy penises in there. You’ve been warned….

Watch the First Trailer For FOX’s Allen Gregory

posted by Aaron

Here’s the first trailer from FOX’s new series Allen Gregory, which was created by Jonah Hill. The set-up is sorta like “what if an 8 year old Stewie stopped trying to kill his Mom and went to school?” YouTubers seem to like this one, at least alot more than they like that trailer for Napoleon Dynamite, the other new animated FOX series coming this Fall.

Last night’s new South Park episode, titled Royal Pudding, mashed together the recent wedding of Prince William to Princess Kate, and Osama bin Laden’s killing – with mushroom people. Mmm-hmmm. Okay, I think I follow. Here’s a clip:

South Park and the Funnybot Target Unfunny Germans

posted by Aaron

South Park is like Christmas – if Christmas came once a week and didn’t rape our wallets. Instead, South Park fills our hearts with happiness and sinister jokery. This Wednesday’s episode, titled Funnybot, sees Jimmy insulting the entire German population for being unfunny. I’m guessing this episode was somewhat inspired by The Comedy Awards, during which Trey and Matt said “Winning this award feels like being student of the month and your mom’s the teacher.” That’s ‘cuz the awards were a production of Comedy Central. Here’s a clip:

StoryCorps Keeps Kay Wang’s Stories Alive

posted by Aaron

The StoryCorps project is one of those things that only comes along once in a blue moon. It’s thoughtful, timeless, entertaining and executed with world-class production values. This episode, directed as always by The Rauch Brothers, features the late Kay Wang’s stories. She was a reluctant storyteller, and that’s half the charm. Credits below.

Fraga Leads RJ Berger Animation Effort

posted by Aaron

Dan Fraga and the team at W!LDBRAIN have been hard at work on the 2nd season of intersticial animation for the MTV series The Hard Times of RJ Berger. Animation is utilized to essentially produce sequences that their live-action budget can’t afford. What’s cool (and probably pretty backbreaking for Fraga) is that each animation is produced in a different style. Here’s a sequence that pays homage to Fleischer Studios, or Popeye-style:
