Danny & Annie is powerful new documentary short directed and animated by the Rauch Brothers, who also directed the Q&A short we posted in May. It’s part of the StoryCorps project, which started at recording booths placed across the US, capturing people’s memories on tape. Brought to life by the Rauch Brothers, these segments now air on the PBS series POV.
Adam Miller’s BBC puppet series Mongrels started airing on the BBC back in June. Aimed at adults, the series has received mixed reviews. I haven’t seen a full episode yet, but this clip below seems quite promising. The show, which was 5 years in the making, follows the lives of dogs, cats, pigeons and other city animals.
Are you ready? Really ready? Okay, that’s too ready. I mean, The Venture Bros. season is still a month away, so cool your jets, there superfan. On September 12th at 11:30pm ET/PT you’ll be up to your eyeballs in new Venture Bros, and it looks like we’re in for another excellent season. Here’s the sample-size, which now comes in 4-minute packs:
Remember this? In 2003, 150 lawmakers and political activists fasted to protest the MTV animated series Clone High. They were angry over what they saw as an inappropriate depiction of their deceased political and spiritual leader Mahatma Gandhi. I’m guessing the same uproar won’t occur after this Sunday’s episode (12:30 am on Adult Swim) of Mary Shelley’s Frankenhole, which sees Gandhi turned into a vampire, but that remains to be seen.
Here’s a stylish looking music video from the children’s series Yo Gabba Gabba! The song is Dean & Britta’s Sometime We Win, Sometimes We Lose. Justin Fines designed the piece, and Andy Kennedy handled the character animation.
This Sunday’s episode of Mary Shelley’s Frankenhole visits Hollywood’s very own Ron Howard, child actor turned big time feature director. Here’s a clip. The episode, titled Ronny Ron Ronald, airs at 12:30am on Sunday, August 1st.
The Looney Tunes Show has been announced on Cartoon Network. There’s no exact date yet, but we know it’s “Coming this Fall.” Check out this (crappy) screencap. What do you think of the CG and 2D styles? I’ve seen longer clips of the CG stuff (Roadrunner and Coyote), and I was rather impressed. I’ve heard the writing isn’t very solid, and/or that there’s just too much of it.
