Vega Unwraps Animated Tempo Spot

Sherwood Plants The Apple Tree

Here’s an intriguing trailer – it’s for Alex Sherwood’s graduation film from the Irish School of Animation. His short is titled The Apple Tree. It’s NSFW, but in what appears to be a very innocent way. We’ll keep you updated when the full film is available for viewing.

Veitch Has a Tiny Animated Chainsaw

Joel Veitch may be best known for his bizarro Quinzno’s commercials, or maybe his looney, animated cat shorts. His latest is in support of a new album, titled The Ham Machine. Veitch teamed up with animator Ross Butter for this animated take on the track Small Chainsaw.

Buck Scores Animated Umbro Campaign

The talented animators at Buck brought this new traditionally-animated spot for Umbro to life. We learn how soccer/football legend Carlos Alberto Torres was introduced to the New York Cosmos, a team that also included the great Pelé. The spot is titled Blackout.

Chester Creates Mad Dogs and Englishmen

Daniel Chester directed this short, titled Mad Dogs and Englishmen, while studying at the Royal College of Art. It’s very subtle storytelling that almost feels a bit like documentary animation. Chester had help on the animation from Ifor Ashton, Claire Pinegar, Peter J. Laugesen and Julia Pott.

Gobelins Students Let the Fur Fly

This elaborate short below, titled Fur, was directed by De François Barreau, Marion Delannoy, Claire Fauvel, Rachid Guendouze, Vincent Nghiem and Benoit Tranchet, all students at Gobelins in Paris. We meet a wolf man who rises up against the segregation that separates him from mankind. Perhaps if there is one knock against the film is the lack of a twist or a clever end. It’s an enjoyable reveal, but not satisfying. One stylistic element that I’d like to point out is the fluid shape that the town’s guards take during their chase of the wolf.

Gobelins Students Ask Who’s Afraid of Mr Greedy?

Get your head on straight and aim your eyes below. This new student film, Who’s Afraid of Mr Greedy?, demands your attention. We meet a man who is in search of his identity, and an evil ogre who stands in his way. The 4-minute, traditionally-animated short was directed by Simon Boucachard, Jean Baptiste Cumont, Sylvain Fabre, Guillaume Fesquet, Adeline Grange, Maxime Mary and Julien Rossire, all students at Gobelins in Paris. There’s much to enjoy here, but I particularly enjoyed watching the delicate hand animation starting around the 2:15 point and again at 2:25.

Trimono Offers Fake Love to VH1

Paulo Mosca and Abel Sánchez recently directed this new long-form VH1 promo titled Fake Love. It’s gorgeously designed and animated, and the color palette is also quite something. The piece was animated by Jose Antonio Cerro, Javier Ara and Paulo Mosca for Trimono.

Gobelin Students Are Cartooning For Peace

Chloe Stenopee Nicolay is currently studying at Gobelins in Paris, and over a 4 week period she produced this short below for the Cartooning For Peace initiative. It’s a project begun at the UN that challenges political cartoonist to help the world “unlearn intolerance,” and many Gobelins students are taking part.

Here Nicolay touches on a topic I personally have little tolerance for, as I’m sure you do as well. It’s about the rampant amount of pedophilia inside the church, and how the issue is often brushed aside by authorities. Just disgusting – a grotesque atrocity inside an institution blindly trusted by so many.
