The animation is perhaps a bit too squashy-and-stretchy, but it’s always fun to see Calvin and Hobbes comes to life, even for just a moment. Last year we saw Italian animation student Donato DiCarlo give it a go, and he’s back this year with another short film – unofficially produced, of course.

Dans La Tête (In the Head) is a short film about war, death and life flashing before your eyes. Without giving away the plot, its a bit like Groundhog Day meets D-Day. The short was created by Grégory Damour, Maxime Entringer, Anthony Gilles and Allan Sellier – all students at the French animation school ESMA.
Johnny Kelly, the animator behind Procrastination, recently teamed up with Adobe by way of Goodby, Silverstein and Partners to create this 2 minute film titled The Seed. It was produced with a mix of 2D animation and stop-motion, with help from the entire CS4 Suite. The project was sourced out of Nexus Productions.
The fine folks at JibJab.com are celebrating Thanksgiving in the USA with a new Sendable short. As you can see below, Cranberries From The Fridge puts fruit on the chopping block in a time when we thought turkeys only had to worry. As a side note, one our contributors is currently featured on the JibJab site (as he does work there). Alan Cook is the second elf from the right on the homepage this week (inset).
Our Wonderful Nature, directed and animated by Tomer Eshed, is a CGI-animated tale of what actually happens during the mating habits of the water shrew. This animal documentary was created as part of an animation study at the Academy for Film and Television “Konrad Wolf” in Potsdam , using Maya, to show the “true” events that take place in a 3-second battle between two males as they fight for the courtship of a nearby female shrew.
With additional animation by Dennis Rettkowski, Our Wonderful Nature has already made it’s mark at a few German film festivals, including Best Short Film at the FFA Short Tiger Awards, and Best Higher Production at the Animago Awards. Additional credits include David Ziegler for sound design and Stefan Maria Schneider for the music.
Interesting to note, that Our Wonderful Nature shares a similar tone to the 2006 Canadian Short film, Spiders on Drugs, created by First Church of Christ, Filmmaker.
Four graduates of France’s Supinfocom combined forces to create an upcoming film titled Facteur Mineur (Miner Factor). The team, comprised of Arnaud Joli, Marx Blackmon, Geoffrey Skrajewski and François Ruiz, released this eerie trailer that hints at a story of pencil miners in distress. For more on the project, enjoy the making of video. We’ll surely tip you off when the full film is available.
