DreamWorks Animation’s latest Megamind trailer reveals the backstories of Metro Man and Megamind, who both appear to have origins along the Superman lines. The feature arrives in theaters on November 5th.

An Animation About a Book About Fairy Tales

I’ve seen some nicely animated book promotions before, but nothing like this. The book is Benjamin Lacombe’s latest pop-up creation, titled Il Etait Une Fois (Once Upon a Time). As you might imagine from the title, it’s a fairy tale book, but it’s features handfuls of classic characters like Alice, Pinocchio, Beauty and the Beast, Peter Pan and Little Red Riding Hood. This promo below was animated by the team at BC Wall, the French collective of artists and CG directors.

No Pets Allowed – New Spanish Animated Feature

Two Spanish studios, Headless and SixBirds, are developing a CG feature. No Pets Allowed tells the story of a family who endure “the unexpected invasion of their home by strange and fun alien monsters.” The teaser below was directed by Adrián García, Victor Maldonado and Alfredo Torres.

The Monk & The Monkey Guide Students To DreamWorks

Brendan Carroll and Francesco Giroldini, two students at Ringling College of Art + Design, crafted this new CG short about a young monk sent on an important task. Since completing the film, both Giroldini and Carroll have graduated and begun jobs at DreamWorks Animation. Enjoy The Monk & The Monkey.

Iglesias Mixes Animated P-Jay Video

Sébastien Iglesias, a student at Supinfocom Arles, created this musically-driven CG short about a DJ and some beat-crazy birds. It gets really fun and abstract near the end, so watch it all the way through. It’s titled P-Jay.

Supinfocom Students Create Delicious Looking SlimTime

dilla – New Animated Short From Ringling Students

Every year, I’m more and more impressed with the work from students at Ringling College of Art + Design. Take dilla, a CG short directed by Mike Klim, Stanley Moore, Dominic Pallotta and Mikey Sauls. Strong design, tight timing, crisp acting, smart use of color and camera – and a fairly entertaining story. It’s all pantomime too, which is hard to pull off. Not surprisingly, one of the directors, Mikey Sauls, was selected to participate in this summer’s Pixar Animation program.
