Halloween is lurking around the corner, and I want to aim your eyeballs at the latest Hallowindow DVD. The latest short from Canada’s Malcolm Sutherland (Astronmer’s Dream) feels like an existential meditation on life as we know it. Umbra a cyclical film that views a new world through the eyes of an explorer who soon realizes that this world isn’t so new anymore. I’m curious about the production method – it feels very organic, as if it was painted on a single slab, with each frame painting over the last.
Titouan Bordeau has finished his studies at Lycée Marie Curie à Marseille, but not before creating this dialog-free short, titled Rendez Vous. It’s a brief love story between a retired pirate and a large mermaid. [NSFW - animated nudity]
