Ernest and Celestine Head to Cannes

On the heels of A Town Called Panic, the 2009 stop-motion film you simply must watch, Stéphane Aubier and Vincent Patar have adapted, along with Benjamin Renner, Gabrielle Vincent’s book series, Ernest and Celestine. The 80 minute, 2D feature will soon screen at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival, and the producers have uploaded a number of French-language clips from the film for your previewing pleasure. You’ll see beautiful water-color world inhabited by bears, mice and lots and lots of candy.

GlossyRey Cooks Up Vegetarian Animation

The team at GlossyRey Animation and Design have barfed out a new animated short that urges us to give up meat. Nemanja Zivkovic came up with the story for Be a Vegetarian, and Stanko Stupar provided the animation. Lots of background on the piece and sketches over at the GlossyRey site.

Gobelins Team Gives Life to My Bloody Lad

Four first-year animators at l’Ecole des Gobelins directed this new animated short, titled My Bloody Lad, about a boy who gets a zombie for his birthday. Working under the team name of DeadWalter, Cyrille Chauvin, Guillaume Dousse, Thibaud Petitpas and Pierre Rutz produced the video in about a month in conjunction with the team at Wizzprod°.

Veitch Has a Tiny Animated Chainsaw

Joel Veitch may be best known for his bizarro Quinzno’s commercials, or maybe his looney, animated cat shorts. His latest is in support of a new album, titled The Ham Machine. Veitch teamed up with animator Ross Butter for this animated take on the track Small Chainsaw.

StoryCorps Keeps Kay Wang’s Stories Alive

The StoryCorps project is one of those things that only comes along once in a blue moon. It’s thoughtful, timeless, entertaining and executed with world-class production values. This episode, directed as always by The Rauch Brothers, features the late Kay Wang’s stories. She was a reluctant storyteller, and that’s half the charm. Credits below.

Captain Awesome Hurtles Students Through Graduation

I just spotted a new graduation film out Denmark’s Animation Workshop. Captain Awesome is the creation of Ercan Bozdogan, Mikkel Aabenhuus Sørensen, Andreas Husballe, Jonas Mølgaard Jensen, Ninni Munch Pettersson and Lars Kramhøft.
