Australian Paul Robertson has fascinated us with his pixel art animation before, with his non-stop-action film Pirate Baby’s Cabana Battle Street Fight 2006. With a new music video for the band Qua, Robertson shows that his style adapts to the down-tempo electronic music. The song is titled Devil Eyes, off the album Painting Monsters On Clouds.

Portland-based designer and illustrator Alberto Cerriteño directed and designed this music video below for the Mexican band Austin TV. Alberto teamed up with Diego Huacuja who handled the animation. The track is titled Shiva.

Grigoris Leontiades at Trunk Animation directed this animated short for Easypetcarier.com. As opposed to going the tradition “spot” route, they opted to create a short film, titled Scratch. Smart approach, no?
Stop-motion specialist Thomas R. Smith has animated on great TV series like The PJs and Robot Chicken. More recently, he’s been working on Cartoon Network’s series Chowder, which is a traditional 2D show, but they occasionally wedge in stop motion sequences like this:

Parlophone Records, which is part of the EMI Group, recently added some new videos to their YouTube channel. Two aren’t videos, but instead animatics for animated music videos. And I’m not just talking about any old music videos – these are from the Gorillaz, the virtual band created by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett. I’m nearly dead sure that Jamie Hewlett is the hand behind all of these animatic panels. Both of these videos were eventually animated at Passion Pictures. First up…

Colle+McVoy created this animated spot for the Minnesota State Lottery’s Millionaire Raffle. This one is titled Snow Bot, which illustrates why I moved from Michigan to California – there’s just too much damned snow.
Disney/Pixar’s feature film Cars has made the leap to TV. Tonight on Toon Disney at 5:00pm/4:00pm central, a new series of animated shorts will premiere, starting with an episode titled Rescue Squad Mater. The shorts were directed by John Lasseter, who also directed the 2006 feature along with the late Joe Ranft. Lasseter is joined by co-directors Victor Navone and Rob Gibbs. Disney Channel and ABC Family will also carry the shorts later on down the road. Get it? Road… cars. Ugg. Below you can see a clip from an upcoming episode titled El Materdor.
