New Megamind Trailer Details Origin Stories

DreamWorks Animation’s latest Megamind trailer reveals the backstories of Metro Man and Megamind, who both appear to have origins along the Superman lines. The feature arrives in theaters on November 5th.

Sony Pictures Classics has acquired the North American rights to Sylvain Chomet’s The Illusionist, so the film is likely to get a theatrical release here in the States soon. In the meantime, a few new clips have magically appeared:

Swedish Chef Cooking in Muppet’s Kitchen with Cat Cora

There’s a missing ingredient on the web, and it’s the Swedish Chef. Thankfully, his unhinged brand of kitchen kookiness will soon be on the internet menu, after reportedly being delayed since January. The Muppet’s Kitchen with Cat Cora is a new web series coming from Disney, and it will feature topics like Food You Can Eat with Your Hands Night. After the surprising return of The Muppets last year (see Bohemian Rhapsody), I’m optimistic that this is going to be an appetizing project. Here’s the teaser:

Smith and Wray Join the StoryCorps Ranks

The not-for-profit StoryCorps project (which is part of the PBS series POV) has landed itself on the YouTube homepage today (and yesterday) in the coveted Spotlight section. It coincides with the release of 2 new animated shorts. They’re all directed and produced by The Rauch Brothers, but each one production included a rock star guest artist.

An Animation About a Book About Fairy Tales

I’ve seen some nicely animated book promotions before, but nothing like this. The book is Benjamin Lacombe’s latest pop-up creation, titled Il Etait Une Fois (Once Upon a Time). As you might imagine from the title, it’s a fairy tale book, but it’s features handfuls of classic characters like Alice, Pinocchio, Beauty and the Beast, Peter Pan and Little Red Riding Hood. This promo below was animated by the team at BC Wall, the French collective of artists and CG directors.

No Pets Allowed – New Spanish Animated Feature

Two Spanish studios, Headless and SixBirds, are developing a CG feature. No Pets Allowed tells the story of a family who endure “the unexpected invasion of their home by strange and fun alien monsters.” The teaser below was directed by Adrián García, Victor Maldonado and Alfredo Torres.

Jim Henson’s Creature Shop and Partizan Productions were behind this series of Serenading Unicorn music videos. This one features Culture Club’s Do You Really Want To Hurt Me. It’s all part of a promotional campaign for Juicy Fruit. The campaign was initiated by Evolution Bureau.
