DreamWorks Animation’s MegaMind, which was previously titled Oobermind, will follow both How To Train Your Dragon and Shrek Forever After into theaters on November 5th, 2010. It’s feeling like a bit of a chop-shop over at DreamWorks, who seem to be complacent being the Pontiac to Pixar’s Porche. Churning out films hasn’t slowed their box office draw, however, with their last 5 animated features grossing (often well) over $350 million worldwide.
With comic-genius Will Ferrell playing the roll of MegaMind, perhaps we’re up for the same magic Jack Black brought to Kung Fu Panda, but this trailer doesn’t lead me to believe that. It feels like a cheap knockoff of Austin Powers with an alien twist. We don’t hear Brad Pitt in this piece, but he’s voicing Metro Man. Pitt, who is a mediocre actor at best, is a dreadful voice actor, displaying very little range and delivering often mumbled lines. Tina Fey plays reporter Roxanne Ritchi, and maybe she’ll swoop in and save the day. What’s your take – hit or miss?

Totally agree – I didn’t get much from that trailer, either. Seems like he’s rehashing his villain from Zoolander, too.
apparently it was bad enough that Dreamworks hired a hacker to hack cartoonbrew because of the negative discussion, ZING!(kidding!)
i agree, megamind looks lame. but ill give it a chance.
i loved the first 2 shreks, loved kung fu panda and dragon tamer looks cool took, from what i can tell from the trailer. I dont think, dreamworks is inferior to pixar, just doing what seems commercially sound at the moment.
plus, if you look at all the stupid movies and straight to home shit disney did “only” for the money over the years, dw pretty much looks like the chuck norris of animation. i just bring up disney, because of their close affiliation with pixar and people forget that pixar can only shine that bright because of disneys support. well, i could be wrong with that but the heck.
i for once, never thought to myself when whatching shrek or kfp “pixar would have done that shit better.”
