This year I notice a pretty significant drop in animated spots accompanying the Super Bowl. Last year we had Coca-Cola’s CG Heist spot, Chevron’s stop-motion talking cars, the Bridgestone Tires spot featuring Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head and ads for Monsters vs. Aliens and Up. This year it was the Coca-Cola ad featuring Mr. Burns slide into financial insecurity, the video game ad for Dante’s Inferno and the Honda Squirrel spot. No aniamted movie trailers and almost no comedic animation. Boooooo!

I gotta say…I was really surprised by how straight-forward that Simpsons spot was, in the end. I really expected them to deliver the message with some sort of ironic or sarcastic flavor, but nope. Ya, I realize this is a month late. Guess who’s catching up on their Google Reader queue?
