Best Animated Feature Nominations Poll – Early Results

posted by Aaron, 7.55 AM

After 300+ votes over the last day, we’ve got a pretty clear picture of the front-runners in this race for the 5 Best Animated Feature slots. With 20 animated films eligible for the Oscar nominations this year, it looks like a dog-fight for that 5th spot. However, two of these films haven’t been open to the public yet; The Princess and the Frog (Nov 25th), and Fantastic Mr. Fox (select theaters today, wide on November 25th).

Voters obviously haven’t seen Mary and Max for it to be in last place. ;)

I was lucky enough to be in Ottawa for the Festival, and it truly stole the spotlight for me. I have to admit I really hope it gets the Oscar this year, despite Up being truly touching and Coraline beyond magnificent. I just think Mary and Max is different from what we usually see in animated features. :)

Ya, films with that small a rollout are surely at a disadvantage, but to clarify, Mary and Max isn’t in “last place.” That image above is a snapshot of the top 9 films from the poll, so Mary and Max is in 9th of 20. It’s actually moved from 9th to 8th since this morning tho.

Those are the five I would like to see compete the most; but aren’t the five I think will actually end up as finalists.

Man it’d be cool if a film like “Kells” could make it in!
