I’ll begin with a confession. I’ve never been a lover of 3D animation. I’m not fundamentally opposed to it but it sometimes leaves me cold and being a bit of a technophobe the process scares the pants off me. I’m an ink and paper man, handmade, lo-fi, homespun tinkering away in a dusty old shed. (Actually I have a nice studio, but you get the picture.)
However, occasionally a piece of work comes along that transcends the technique, something that warms the cockles of my heart.
And so when I came across Michael J Dowswell’s work in progress project While they Slept the temperature of those cockles rose a few degrees. It has such elegant timing and the colouring is subtle and wonderful. It has an intriguing sense of calm about it and I really want to see more.
