Roger Rabbit 2 Animated With Performance Capture?

posted by Aaron

After watching this MTV interview with director Robert Zemeckis (The Polar Express, Beowulf, A Christmas Carol), it’s hard not to jump to conclusions. He said:

“I’ll tell you what is buzzing around in my head now that we have the ability—the digital tools, performance capture—I’m starting to think about Roger Rabbit.”

The original 1988 Roger Rabbit film was a marriage of exceptional traditional 2D animation with live-action footage, and dragging the project into the uncanny valley of mocap would be a collasal mistake. It’s reportedly a cost-saving issue – as mocap is cheaper to produce, and Roger will likely have more screen time in the sequel.
